Detailed overview for the Overland Track including good suggestions for side trips, gear selection and alternative day sections. Having enjoyed hiking the O.T twice in the last couple of years, it solidified some choices our group made in planning.
I found Mowser's blog when researching my first hike on Tasmania's Overland Track. I am impressed by Mowser's great enthusiasm for hiking and his practical advice- from selecting the right gear to assessing all the factors to consider when planning for a multi-day hike. I feel more informed now and secure that I will be as prepared as possible for the OT and future hikes. I especially like that Mowser's advice works for a wet environment like Tassie but other hiking environments as well. I suspect Mowser's voice will be in my head as I make decisions on the OT. Instead of "What would Dolly do?" it will be "What would Mowser do?" Or might be both! Mowser's gear recommendations confirmed my previous research and I ordered some lighter gear being confident I was investing in the right pieces. Mowser's tent guide was very useful - and made me more knowledgable about tents so I could identify the right tent for my hiking needs. The meal planner is great and, as a spreadsheet enthusiast, I appreciate how much time it will save - and that it's not full of lots of sweets like many of the US versions.
Hi Mowser, I have been watching your videos on YouTube now for a couple of years and always find your content very interesting and informative. Having the opportunity to download you Overland Guide will give me valuable information on the gear, training and food to take on many hikes I hope to be able to do. I will be doing my first Tasmanian hike in November starting off with the Three Capes. Cheers A packing checklist is vital for any hike and your checklist covers everything I need.
I found Mowser on YouTube and I’m so thankful I did. I’ve learned so much from him from hiking tips and packing to reduce weight. I got the Overland Track guide off him to prepare for my hike next year and it has been a wealth of information that’s easy to understand and very informative (right down to the finest detail of where to take a dip if you’re game :).) The tips and guides stopped me from packing my fears and really helped in reducing my weight and pack size
Used your videos to prepare me for The Walls of Jerusalem, 2 days off then The Overland. Gave me insight into what to expect resulting in a fantastic trip. I was prepared for the snow, rain, mud, wind and even waking to a frozen tent fly. Encountered the lot in February, 2026. G'day Mowser. I just wanted to let you know that I completed the Overland Track hike on Friday afternoon and it was you and your channel's content that helped me prepare and your advice helped make that hike an amazing adventure. I had all the good kit and made all the right preps, so thank you from me and please keep up the great work with your channel.
I've been searching the internet and doing my research on the Overland Trek since recently walking around Dove Lake. In my opinion Mowser know's his stuff, equipment, resources and survival strategies. I'm an ADF Veteran and back in 1987 I hiked and repelled from the Walls of Jerusalem. I'm about to undertake a short hike to Lake Antimony Hut and revisit a survival hut I have not seen in almost 40 years. I turned to Mowser for advice I got a qualified, safety based expert opinion. I support blokes like Mowser guiding us into the most breath taking parts of Tasmania. My confidence has definitely grown and I feel far better placed for the 2 missions ahead of me in May 2026.
To prep for the overland track I made sure I walked 10000 steps most days (Mowser tip) and added weights(Mowser tip) to my back pack and walked a 30 minute hill climb on the treadmill. Both tips meant my legs were well prepared for the track and will use these tips again - Thankyou.Show more
